He sat on the bank of the river,
with his fishing rod out in the middle of the stream. It was in the middle of
July, and the sun beat down on him as he waited patiently for the fish to bite.
He looked around, as if he was awaiting someone’s arrival. His backpack sat in
front of him, and he would occasionally take a sip of a water bottle that was
tucked inside. Eventually, he sighed, and stopped looking about.
She followed the map he had given
her, and as she approached where the x was located, seeing nothing.
Looking up and down the wooded path, she saw nothing that hinted at human
inhabitance. She sat down on a rock and tried to figure out if somehow she had
read the map the wrong way. Eventually, frantic, she walked down the path a
little more and sat down on a rock she found.
Looking at his watch, he quickly put his fishing rod
in his backpack and walked up the path a little bit, underneath a huge sycamore
tree. Searching for the copy of the map he had given her, he wondered if he had
made a mistake on it. The exact place he was at, he realized, was the place he
was supposed to meet her an hour ago.
She heard the leaves rustle under
someone’s feet and quickly laid flat on the ground. The rustling stopped and
she relaxed. Standing up, she walked in the other direction, wondering if
perhaps He was down by the river.
The brightness of the sun helped
him go to sleep on the sycamore tree. The heat slowly put him to sleep, and he
drifted off. He wasn’t worried about anything now, because he knew that she
would eventually find him.
As she walked the other direction,
she sensed that she was going the wrong direction. Trusting her instinct, she
walked around the curve that led back up to where a large sycamore tree was
located.
Then she saw him.
He was woken up by the rustling of leaves and
quickly searched around for his backpack. Finding it, he took out his water
bottle and took a sip. He heard the sound of someone approaching.
Then he saw her.
They found each other.
